The Thing About Love Songs

I'm sure we've all wondered what it is about love songs. They have the power to make us feel. Somehow, listening to Celine Dion, Adele (I started listening to her oh) or even some of Beyonce's songs or Westlife, sha any love song can either make you sad, happy, sad or just lonley.
After careful thought and analysis (by yours truly..hehe), I was able to figure out three reasons why love songs appeal to us:
 - Love songs sympathize with us: They help us wallow in our loneliness. A friend of mine once said that love songs make people even more melancholy. However, we seem to feel better after such sadness from certain songs, probably because we have been helped to deal with our grief/sadness. We have been given some kind of therapy... a wallow partner.
 - We can relate to them: The joy of first love and the pain of first heartbreak are surely not foreign to us. Hence when we listen to songs that talk about these things, we can simply relate to them and we are thus happy to sing along or just listen.
 - They bring us hope that love still exists: When we hear/listen to love crooners tell us the beauty of falling in love, we just can't wait to 'fall' just so we can experience the phenomenon. As humans, we all like to believe that love exists because we are made in God's image and God is Love.
I wrote this piece because many of us believe in love for the wrong reasons. Granted, we all love our celebrity couples (myself included), but the response to the rumor that Will and Jada Smith had split a few days ago was really saddening. Its amazing to think that some people believed that if the rumor was true, then love is dead :O. Like seriously????. GOD IS LOVE, and love continues to exist until He is no more which will NEVER happen!!!!. We all need to sit back and contemplate our reasons for believing in stuff.
My point? Believe in Love, BUT for the right reasons.

My Mother

I don't know what this is supposed to be yet. A poem, an essay... I guess it will be a different thing to everyone who reads this. But it might end up being a mini-biography of the woman who has made and is making the greatest impact in my life, one of my best friends...my role model.
I'm not going to tell you her year of birth. However she is in her early forties. She grew up with very strict parents and worked with her family on their farm in the village where she grew up. My mum will tell you any day that she is a village woman and she's not ashamed of that (trust me she isn't anymore...lol). Yes, that's how she is-blunt. She went to a Federal Government college in Benue state and studied micro-biology in the University of Port harcourt. She married my dear father in 1994 and I was born the next year. My brother was born in 1998. She always wanted more children though...but as she says...''they never came''.
My mother is one of the kindest women you'll ever meet. I hope I can touch 1/4th of the lives she has touched so far in her beautiful life. M y father would tell you that if there is anything he is very sure of, it is his wife's love and support for him. She's kind of annoying to us kids especially when she says ''don't wear that'' or ''don't go out today'' or when she gives you a long to-do list of chores...lol. But we are sure of her love and I love her most of the time...lol. Did I mention that she gives the best advice? Yeah, she does.
                                                      SHE'S MY MUMMY!!! :)
The aim of this blog is not to say I have the best mother in the world (even though I do :p), because there are many great mums out there. It's to let y'all know where I come from and of course for you guys who don't, to appreciate your mothers and to tell them so!. Always remember that they are humans like you and of course they'll make mistakes. But in the end no woman could ever hate her own child-- They love you!!!

This is for my mother Mrs Chido Stella Eme- Umesi.
I LOVE YOU MUM!!!

The Devil In My Home

He chases me in the fields
                                                       In the market,...
With all my vital force, I run in fright!
Faster than even my legs can carry me

                                                       Panting... Panting... Panting
                                                       I see my home
                                                       Sweet relief fills my soul
I slam my door shut... BANG!!

                                                       The cool breeze of peace...
                                                       Overwhelming security...
                                                       Calm engulfs me!
                                                       I exhale...

                                                      Turning away from the door
Alas! There he is! The devil himself!
                                                      Struggling now I am
                                                      To leave my own home...

                                                      But trapped I am...
                                                      I charge towards him!!!
With the power the greater one gives
And to my greatest thrill... I am a conqueror!

Friends With Benefits

When I thought of my next post, many ideas popped into my head. This topic won over the rest because... its really gaining popularity and thinking now, I've never really expressed my opinion on it. Well, this is it. And just so you know, this is one person's opinion. :),
Most of you reading this already know what 'friends with benefits' means. However, for those of you who don't (which would be strange :/), its basically, two people in a relationship in which they are friends but with the added 'privilege' of being able to do 'stuff' (you know what I mean jor!) with no strings attached. I've done my best to explain. If you still don't get it, then as T-pain said in 'kiss kiss' - 'you just aint gettin' it!!! :p.
Okay, people who are, have been, or plan to be 'friends with benefits' will tell you that 'it's cool' ,'it's commitment-free', 'it's sweet' ...bla bla bla... Its probably true...for them. Me?? I believe in commitment !! because believe it or not, one person is bound to get attached AND hurt at the end of the day. Besides that, don't you even value your friendship with the other person enough to be commited if you do have a relationship? (food for thought).
Well, like I said, its just my opinion. I believe in commitment, LOVE, friendship. I also believe that all three should be respected and extolled. I love my friends, male and female and I wouldn't joke with their feelings WITH or without their consent!!! I value them too much to want to jeopardize our friendship.

P.S If you love doing friends with benefits, issokay. Just DON'T suggest it to me. You have been warned. Hehe.

My Neighbor

She is the twin of trouble
      They possess identical features
      She personifies nosy
The queen of gossip she is
      She knows EVERYONE
      Befriends all
      Hers is a sad story

      Her children,
Gluttons and 'walk-abouts' is what they have become
      Her husband,
      Like her he has become
      A fool for all seasons.
Oh what a home she has!
      In great need of prayers...

     Her tales fill the streets
The older women regard her with deep scorn
Knowledge of her ways is an open secret
     Whispers here... Whispers there
     Some pray for change
Some pray she pays for her crime against womanhood
But she remains stupid, ignorant of her crime...

      She is my neighbor
      A disgrace to womanhood
Source of shame to her generation
      What do I pray for??
       CHANGE!!!
I only hope it's not too late...
At least for her innocent children.
