Memory Lane

Wide streets
Many faces
Dead, alive, sad, happy
Some loving, welcoming
Some jealous, angry

Smooth paths sometimes
Broken hearts piercing the sole of my foot
Like wicked gravel
Carcasses littering the path sometimes
Thick forests of old grudges

Happy times
When life was easier
No big choices
When all we had was joy and laughter
We didn't know how to hate

Sad memories
of those we lost along the way
Those who died
Those who strayed
Those we drove away

And then I'm back in the present
To what my life is now
To all the people here now
Looking to the future; to making more memories
Memory lane in my rear view mirror
